Instructions for Windows Live Mail settings to work with AVG & encrypted data connections (SSL)

If you did not get to this webpage by reading the first webpage, then go to the first webpage now, and read it!

If you want to stop using encrypted connections (SSL), for your e-mail

In the Windows Live Mail menu, click the Accounts tab, then click Properties:

In the account properties window that pops up, click the Advanced tab, then uncheck the boxes that say This server requires a secure connection (SSL):

Then click the OK button to exit the account settings window.

That's it for stopping Windows Live Mail from using encrypted data connections.


If you want to continue using encrypted connections (SSL), for your e-mail, and want to set Windows Live Mail to use these connections for AVG

In the Windows Live Mail menu, click the Accounts tab, then click Properties:

In the account properties window that pops up (see below), click the Servers tab, change the Incoming mail (POP) and/or Outgoing mail (SMTP) server names to 127.0.0.1.

Now click the Advanced tab, then uncheck the boxes that say This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

Then change the Server Port Numbers for either or both the incoming and outgoing, as the case may be.  Outgoing mail (SMTP) to 5400, and/or Incoming mail (POP) to 5300:

Then click the OK button to exit the account settings window.

Assuming that you already made the changes in AVG on my first webpage, then that's it, your done.
